BERKELEY - Basketball coaches Mike Montgomery and Lindsay Gottlieb, along with guard Allen Crabbe and director of track & field Tony Sandoval, will be guests on Monday's Cal Coaches Corner. The program airs from 6-7 p.m. on NewsTalk 910 AM live from the Paragon at the Claremont Hotel, Club and Spa. Montgomery's men's basketball team enters the Pac-12 Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will open against the winner of Wednesday's Stanford-Arizona State contest at 6:10 p.m. Thursday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Bears are 23-8 overall and finished 13-5 in the conference. Cal won its only meeting this year with ASU, a 68-47 decision, while the Bears split their two match-ups against Stanford. Crabbe is coming off a game-high 20-point effort at Stanford. For the year, he leads the Bears with 15.4 ppg and has tossed in 77 three-pointers - the third-highest total in school history. Gottlieb and her women's basketball team (22-8, 13-5) also earned the No. 2 seed at the Pac-12 Tournament and will face the Colorado-Utah winner in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Galen Center on the USC campus. The tourney then moves to Staples Center for the semifinal and championship games. The Bears swept both the Buffaloes and the Utes during the regular season. Sandoval's track & field squad heads to Boise, Idaho, this weekend for the NCAA Indoor Championships. The Bears have automatic qualifiers in three events, each in a school-record time. Deborah Maier is the national leader in the 5000 meters (Cal-record 15:29.24) and also qualified in the 3000 (9:02.35), while Chelsea Reilly set a Cal mark in the 3000 last month and is ranked third in the country in the event (9:00.86). The distance medley relay established a school record earlier this year (10:56.29). The Cal Coaches Corner, hosted by Todd McKim, is broadcast each Monday from August through March and includes interviews and features with Golden Bear coaches, student-athletes and alumni from all 29 intercollegiate sports.
