Nestled in Strawberry Canyon, Witter Rugby Field is the home of Cal rugby - the most successful collegiate program in the country with 25 national championships, including a string of five consecutive titles from 2004-08 and one most recently in 2010.
A $2 million facility built in 1995, Witter Rugby Field offers seating for up to 5,000 fans, a hand-operated scoreboard and a ideal playing surface for the Golden Bears.
Next to the field is the Doc Hudson Memorial Field House, which holds the rugby offices, as well as a room adorned with Cal and U.S. rugby memorabilia - featuring pictures that follow the history of Cal rugby. Hudson, one of the greatest rugby coaches in U.S. history, compiled a 339-84-23 record during his 36 years as Cal's rugby coach from 1938-74.
In addition to rugby competition in the spring, Witter Rugby Field acts as the practice facility for the Cal football team in the fall. In 2011, Witter Rugby Field was also home to the Cal lacrosse team.
