2009 STRENGTH & CONDITIONING CAMP PROGRAM


The strength and conditioning program for CAL is a comprehensive process which combines modern Olympic platform, aerobic and anaerobic workouts in the Haas Pavilion fitness facility with personalized training to maximize strength, speed, flexibility and overall health. 

An integral part of CAL Athletics is the strength and conditioning program.The program's philosophy is geared towards helping each student-athlete achieve the highest level of athletic development, by teaching how all the components of strength and conditioning fit together, student-athletes understand how to maximize force production. This includes enhancement of speed, strength and flexibility, which results in improved power.   

The CAL weight room includes eight Olympic platforms and an array of aerobic and anaerobic equipment. The picturesque facility offers panoramic views of the entire region, including San Francisco and the Bay.  With closely monitored workouts that involve a great deal of individual instruction and attention, student-athletes are taught the correct techniques to increase peak performance during competition.  CAL's program stresses comprehensive training in order to improve both strength and speed. Flexibility is a key component because it is essential for proper lifting. 

In this way, CAL's strength and conditioning program is a vital component linking the "full circle" of a student-athlete's physical development from conditioning through rehabilitation and reconditioning. 


Camp is held in the Haas Pavilion Weight Room and on Edward's Track, where the Golden Bears Train.

SPEED & STRENGTH CAMP
July 20-23,Monday-Thursday 9:00am-12:00pm (Noon)

The CAL Speed & Strength Camp is designed to improve your sport related strength & speed. The core to athletic success is in the elements of flexibility, agility, power and speed.  The CAL Speed and Strength camp will give you the tools you need to get to the next level and bring a whole new phase to your athletic development.  At camp you will utilize the same programs as the CAL athletes do in an interactive and productive environment.  Get a jump start on next season with the CAL Strength & Conditioning staff.

Training Emphasis includes: 

  • Technique to Improve Sprint Times
  • Speed Ladders
  • Plyometrics
  • Training to Improve Flexibility, Agility, & Power
  • Sport Specific Speed & Strength

ACCELERATION ACADEMY
Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays - 4:00-5:00pm
SESSION I: June 15-July 2
SESSION II: July 6-July 24

AGE: 12 - 18

 The CAL Strength & Conditioning Acceleration Academy is a 3 week program designed to increase your speed & acceleration.  Our staff will utilize the same techniques used in the training programs at CAL with our student-athletes.  This program will teach and instruct the proper technique, form and training elements to improve the athletes acceleration leading to increased speed. Athletes will be taught drills which will enhance their ability to accelerate and maintain top speeds. Most sports are explosive and dynamic in nature. Athletes that are able to move rapidly and powerfully are at an advantage. This camp focuses on the attributes of acceleration and speed to further improve athletic performance. At CAL, we seek to create a fun, confidant, and competitive environment geared for athletes who desire to gain an edge in their athletic training. BASEBALL SPECIFIC: SPEED & ACCELERATION
Monday, July 20 - Thursday, July 23: 3:30-5:00pm

 The CAL BASEBALL SPEED CAMP is designed to introduce and develop the skills needed for baseball specific speed in base running and fielding. The camp will breakdown and train running mechanics, first step, drive technique, linear speed, reaction, and change of direction. Over four days, the camp is designed to provide the athletes with basic concepts and techniques in a fun and competitive atmosphere.
