2009 CAL BASKETBALL CAMPS FOR BOYS

Join the experienced and knowledgeable CAL Basketball Coaching Staff this summer at the CAL Basketball Camps for Boys. Camp instruction includes position specific training, fundamental skill development, and drills concentrating on shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding, and defensive techniques. Game play focuses on overall skill development, incorporating all aspects of the game. Players are grouped according to both age and ability levels, placing players of similar abilities and positions in the same group.

Haas Pavilion, the home of Golden Bear Basketball, will play host to all camp sessions. Campers will have a maximum coach to player ratio so that each camper will receive a good amount of individual attention.

FATHER & SON CAMP - CAMP FULL, ENROLLMENT IS NOW CLOSED! Date: June 20-21, Saturday-Sunday AGES: Sons age 6-18 and Fathers of ALL AGES PRICE: $210 for each participant (Father and Son INDIVIDUALLY) Father & Son Camp is designed for fathers and sons to spend quality time together while learning more about the game of basketball. While some activities will group fathers with fathers and sons with sons, a focus of the camp is on fathers and sons working with one another. They will go through drills together, play on the same team against other Fathers and Sons all while spending one night in the campus dorms and having meals in the campus cafeteria.
DAY CAMP Monday-Wednesday 9:30am-3:30pm, Thursday 9:30am-1:00pm (Awards Ceremony begins at 12:00pm) Session I: June 22-25 Session II: July 27-July 30 AGES: 6-17 PRICE: $275 Campers will be divided into the appropriate age groups where they will go through station work, drills, contests, as well as games during the course of the week. There will be a one hour lunch break each day from 12-1pm. While we require a lunch to be brought each day of camp, a snack store will be open during the lunch break to allow campers the option of purchasing pizza, water, snacks, etc.
TEAM CAMP Thursday - Friday, June 25 - June 26 AGES: 14-17 PRICE: $400 per team High School teams will receive instruction and compete against one another over a span of three days. Each school will be guaranteed a certain number of games culminating in a tournament on the final day. TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION
Due to University and NCAA Policies, we are not allowed to offer any transportation to and from camps. The airport closest to the Berkeley campus is Oakland International Airport; San Francisco International Airport is also within a reasonable distance.
There are a few shuttle services that offer transportation to and from Oakland & San Francisco International Airports. Reservations must be made at least a few days in advance, you can make reservations over the phone or online.

COACHING STAFF Mike Montgomery, CAL Head Coach, 1st Year Mike Montgomery, a four-time Pacific-10 Conference Coach of the Year and John R. Wooden "Legends of Coaching" Lifetime Achievement Award recipient; is in his first season as the 15th head men's basketball coach at the University of California.
Coach Montgomery posted a .702 winning percentage and collected 16 postseason appearances, four regular-season Pac-10 titles and the 2004 Pac-10 Tournament crown in his 18 seasons as head coach at Stanford from 1986-2004. Coach Montgomery garnered an assortment of honors, including Basketball Times National Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2004, and four times was honored as the Pac-10 Coach of the Year (1999, 2000, 2003, 2004).
Following the 2003-04 season, Montgomery served as the head coach for the Golden State Warriors for two seasons. He also served as an assistant coach for the United States at the 2002 World Basketball Championships. In 1996, Montgomery was named head coach of the USA Men's U-22 Select Basketball team and was selected the USA Basketball Developmental Coach of the Year and the United State Olympic Committee Basketball Developmental Coach of the Year.
Coach Montgomery and his staff will take the same passionate and energetic approach to the 2008 Cal Basketball Camps. These camps are designed to be a comprehensive and well-rounded system for young men to provide an opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge in the game of basketball. Gregg Gottlieb, CAL Assistant Coach, 2nd Year Coach Gottlieb in his second year at CAL, had previous stops at San Diego State where the Aztec's made NCAA tournament appearances in 2001-2002 and 2005-2006 seasons. In 2005-2006 Coach Gottlieb assisted the Aztecs to a 24-9 overall record and the regular-season and tournament Mountain West Conference Titles.
Prior to his time at SDSU, Coach Gottlieb was at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo from 1994-1996 aiding in the turn around of the Mustang program. After his time at Cal Poly, Gottlieb moved on to Sacramento State as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator prior to joining the SDSU Staff. Coach Gottlieb was a standout at El Modena HS in Orange, CA and played his college ball at Drake University in Iowa. Coach Gottlieb has a bachelor's degree from UCLA and an MBA from Cal Poly.
Jay John, CAL Assistant Coach, 1st Year Coach John brings over 25 years of experience to CAL including 5 seasons as Head Coach at Oregon State from 2002-2008. Coach John has had stops at a few other Pac-10 schools including Arizona, where he served as an assistant to Hall of Fame Coach, Lute Olson, and assisted the Wildcats to four NCAA Tournament appearances and the National Championship Game in 2001. Another Pac-10 stop included two stints at Oregon in the 1984-85 and 1997-98 seasons. Coach John also has previous experience at San Francisco and Butler, which he helped make an NCAA Tournament appearance in 1996-97.
Coach John has a Bachelors Degree from Arizona and a Master's Degree from Butler.
Travis DeCuire, CAL Assistant Coach, 1st Year Coach DeCuire comes to Cal after spending the last 5 seasona at Old Dominion, where he helped the Monarchs make NCAA Tournament appearances in 2005 and 2007. Prior to his time at Old Dominion, Decuire had two successful years at Green River Community College in Seattle where he was named Conference Coach of the Year after his 2nd season. Coach DeCuire served at Sammamish HS in Bellevue, WA as Head Basketball Coach and led the school to two conference titles and a state championship appearance before moving on to Green River.
DeCuire was a standout at the University of Montana, where was an All-Big Sky Conference selection his junior & senior years, two-time team MVP and all-time assist leader setting records in assists in both career and single season categories.
Coach DeCuire holds a bachelors degree from Montana.
