As Cal gets set to travel to San Diego tomorrow morning for the Holiday Bowl, we begin our coverage of the event by highlighting one of the top wide receivers in school history. Senior Marvin Jones has excelled on the field as a standout receiver for the Golden Bears and off the field as a father of two young boys. We take a look into his career at Cal and when he first took interest in the game of football in the following feature.
We hope you enjoy this in-depth feature on #1.

Head men's basketball coach Mike Montgomery is a basketball icon in the Bay Area, but there is a new Montgomery rising up the coaching ranks. Coach Montgomery's son, John Montgomery, is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Bears after serving as the team's director of operations the past three seasons. John also coached at Furman University in South Carolina for the 2007-08 season, prior to his arrival in Berkeley.
Here is a great feature that recently aired on CBS affiliate KPIX in San Francisco highlighting the Montgomery's father-son relationship here at Cal.

As work continues on the California Memorial Stadium retrofit, you will notice something missing from the site. The two large tower cranes have been dismantled and are no longer there as their role in the project is complete. Cal head women's basketball coach Lindsay Gottlieb spoke to the crowd at Haas Pavilion following the Bears' 77-75 defeat to No. 12 Ohio State today. She thanked them for coming out and asked for their continued support in the Bears' upcoming home contests.
In search of its second victory over a ranked opponent this season, the California women's basketball team fell just short in a 77-75 defeat to No. 12 Ohio State today at Haas Pavilion. Down by double digits for most of the second half, the Bears mounted a furious comeback to pull within two points and regained possession with 20 seconds remaining.
Cal (8-3) got off several attempts in the paint in the final seconds but the ball rolled in and off the rim on multiple occasions as time expired and the Buckeyes (10-0) escaped with the two-point victory to remain undefeated. The Bears' three losses to ranked teams this season have come by a combined six points (73-70 to No. 16 Rutgers and 61-60 to No. 24 Texas). Sophomore forward Gennifer Brandon was dominant for the Bears with 24 points and 24 rebounds - both career-highs and the latter was a Haas Pavilion record. Cal, ranked third in the nation in rebounding, controlled the glass throughout today's contest with a 44-28 advantage on the boards. Brandon nearly out-rebounded the Buckeyes herself in the contest. Talia Caldwell (13), Afure Jemerigbe (11) and Layshia Clarendon (10) were also in double figures for the Bears today. Senior guard Samantha Prahalis led Ohio State with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists on the afternoon. Cal is back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 20 as the Bears host Dartmouth at 7 p.m. right here at Haas Pavilion. GO BEARS!
In an action-packed first half, No. 12 Ohio State leads the California women's basketball team, 45-40. The Buckeyes shot 56.3 percent from the field as a team, led by Samantha Prahalis' 11 points.
Sophomore forward Gennifer Brandon led the Bears with a double-double in the opening half that consisted of 12 points and 12 rebounds in just 14 minutes of action. Junior center Talia Caldwell poured in 11 first-half points for Cal. The Golden Bears controlled the glass in the first half with a 20-13 rebounding advantage, thanks to Brandon's 12 boards.

Men's basketball head coach Mike Montgomery and seniors Jorge Gutierrez and Harper Kamp addressed the media following tonight's 77-57 victory over Weber State. You can watch each press conference below to see what they had to say about tonight's win.
Senior Jorge Gutierrez scored a game-high 24 points and in the process shut down the nation's leading scorer to lead Cal (9-2) to a 77-57 victory over Weber State (8-3) Friday night at Haas Pavilion.
Gutierrez defended Weber State's Damian Lillard, who came in averaging 26.4 points per game, and held the Wildcat to a season-low 14 points on 4-of-17 shooting from the field and 3-of-10 from three-point range. Crabbe added 16 points for the Bears, who cruised to their third-straight victory. As a team, Cal held Weber State to just 17.1 percent shooting from the floor in the first half and 31.3 percent overall in the game. Weber State, who recorded just 18 first-half points, was led by Scott Bamforth, who poured in 19 points for the Wildcats. Cal returns to action Monday, Dec. 19 when the Bears face UC Santa Barbara at Haas Pavilion at 7:30 p.m.
You can access the postgame press conference live by clicking here.
In a matchup of the nation's leading scorer, Damian Lillard, and the nation's best defender, Jorge Gutierrez (maybe I am a little biased), it was the California Golden Bear who got the upper hand in the first half. Cal leads Weber State, 32-18, in the opening half here at Haas Pavilion.
Lillard, who entered tonight's contest leading the country with a 26.9 ppg. average, was held in check by Gutierrez with just four points on 1-of-10 shooting from the field, including 0-of-5 from three-point range in the half. Meanwhile, Gutierrez led all scorers with eight points to go along with four rebounds in the half. The Bears scored the open bucket of the game and never looked back en route to the 14-point halftime advantage. Cal pulled away from Weber State with a 10-0 run from 6:06 to 1:34 in the opening period. Sophomore Allen Crabbe and freshman David Kravish each have six points for the Golden Bears in the half. Cal's defense is holding the Wildcats to 17.1 percent (6-of-35) shooting overall from the field and 2-of-14 from three-point range. Second half is eight minutes away... more in a little bit.
Here is a high up view of the center court at Haas Pavilion before tonight's game. I am planning on filming part of Monday's men's basketball game from up in the rafters here at Haas... if I can find my way back up.
