Oregon State has scored on all four of its possessions and now leads Cal, 28-0, with 6:17 remaining in the second quarter. The most recent Beavers score came on a 17-yard pass from Ryan Katz to Joe Halahuni to cap a five-play, 76-yard drive in 2:31.
Oregon State has made it 14-0 in Corvallis on a two-yard run by Jacquizz Rodgers and an extra point from Justin Kahut with 1:36 to go in the first quarter. The scoring play culminated an eight-play, 76-yard drive.
Oregon State has put the first score on the board on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Jacquizz Rodgers to Colby Prince to put the Beavers ahead 7-0. Extra point was good by Justin Kahut. The touchdown drive was five plays, 57-yards.

Keenan Allen ran a kickoff back 98 yards for what seemed to be a score. An illegal block in the back sent it back to the 44-yard line, still giving Allen a 61-yard return, the longest kickoff return of the season for the Bears (previous best was 41 by Sofele at USC).
The illegal block in the back penalty was the first flag thrown against Cal in the game. Cal settled for three points with the possession capped by a 26-yard Tavecchio field goal.
Chris Conte just blocked the ASU punt, recovered the fumble, and then ran the ball in for a touchdown. It is the first time since 2008 that Cal has returned a blocked punt for a touchdown.
Cal's up 40-3.
Shane Vereen takes the direct snap in for a five-yard TD run. It capped a 51-yard, 6-play drive to open the second half. The Bears now lead this one 33-3.
FYI: The Bears record (under Tedford) when they score 30 or more points is 54-5. The rains seem to be making an impact as the slippery pigskin just evaded several players (both Sun Devils and Bears) on the ensuing kickoff, before ASU finally landed on it on the three.
Cal starts the first half with a 26-3 advantage.
Marvin Jones has 101 receiving yards in the first half. It was the third 100-yard receiving game of his career. Riley logged his 50th career TD. Unfortunately, the second half is going to be starting just as the rain is beginning to fall. It held off for the entire first half. Ball is on the tee. Allen and Sofele are back to receive. Here we go...
Marvin Jones pulled in a career-long 52 yard touchdown reception to put the Bears up 23-3.
It was not the longest Riley-to-Jones of the season. That was a 62-yard pass play against Colorado. The catch was Jones' 10th TD reception of his career.
Keenan Allen grabbed a four-yard Riley toss to put the Bears up 16-3. The extra point was blocked by the Sun Devils, snapping a string of 26-straight extra points converted by Tavecchio.
Allen's grab was his team-leading fifth touchdown reception of the year. The scoring opportunity was set up by a 32-yard pass from Riley to Jeremy Ross, the longest reception play of the season for Ross.
Shane Vereen rushed eight yards into the end zone to give the Bears their first lead of the game, 10-3 with 2:05 left in the first quarter. It was Vereen's ninth touchdown of the season. He came into the game fourth in the nation in scoring (12.0 points per game), which also ties him for first place in the Pac-10.
The drive was set up by a 28-yard punt return by Jeremy Ross. Ross came into the game 17th in the nation in punt return average (12.2 yards per return).
A 40-yard field goal from Giorgio Tavecchio ties the game 3-3. 40-yards ties Tavecchio's longest FG of the season.
The table was set by a 39-yard kickoff return by freshman receiver Keenan Allen. It was the second longest return of the season for the Bears and Allen's longest to date.
The rains are holding off (knock on wood). Forecast models say that it should remain overcast, but the rain should hold off until after the game is over. It's 66 degrees out right before kickoff, a pleasant fall day here in Berkeley and PERFECT football weather!
(Note: the weather DID hold, through the first half. Rains came during halftime) ![]()
In an effort to reduce the amount of waste generated at Memorial
Stadium, Cal Athletics has instituted a new recycling program for the
remainder of the 2010 season, which includes participation in the
Environmental Protection Agency's Gameday Challenge, a nationwide
endeavor encouraging universities to promote waste reduction at
football games this fall.
The efforts began at the UCLA game and will continue through the remainder of the season. Look for these recycling bins near the front gates and throughout the stadium and deposit your plastics into the receptacles. ![]()
For those of you watching on Gametracker or listening to the game on KGO, today's uniforms will be white pants with blue jerseys.

Cal football and rugby alum Don James Jr. was today's guest on the KGO pregame show. James was inducted into Cal Athletic Hall of Fame Friday night, part of the 25th induction class. James and the rest of the inductees will also be honored on the field at halftime.

Today's Cal Kickoff game program features tailback Shane Vereen on the cover. The corresponding profile on the Golden Bear tailback was written by back-up kicker David Seawright, an aspiring journalist who covered Cal's track & field team for the Daily Californian last spring.
Other stories to check out include a feature on defensive lineman Derrick Hill and his community service activities; water polo legacy Charlie Steffens; freshman wide receiver Keenan Allen; and a quick look at the eight new members of the Cal Athletic Hall of Fame who were enshrined in ceremonies last night. The group, which represents the 25th class of inductees, will be introduced at halftime today. Right now (about 7:30 a.m.), the Cal Marching Band along with several hundred high school band members are practicing their routines on the stadium turf. The directors are busy trying to get everyone lined up for their positions for their show later this afternoon. Although a light rain fell sporadically earlier, there are several breaks in the clouds as the sun rises over Strawberry Canyon. It should be a great day for Cal football.
Pia Halbig snapped her string of below-par rounds, shooting a three-over 75 in the third round. Her German squad, however, remains in third place heading into the final round of play. She is still in the top-10 among individuals, currently in a tie for eighth place.
The German team is 16 strokes behind tournament-leading Korea. The Germans are three strokes behind the second-place squad from the United States. The final round takes place on Saturday, Oct. 23. Scores

She is in a tie for fifth at -6 for the tournament. Her teammate, Sophia Popov, is also in the top-ten, tied for eighth after shooting a founr-under 68 in the second round.
After bogeying two, Halbig went bogery-free the rest of the round, carding six birdies for her 67. Cal is leading a 16-team field at the conclusion of the first round of action Monday at The Alister MacKenzie Invitational being hosted by the Bears at the par-72, 6,708-yard Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. The field is scheduled to play 36 holes of golf on Monday, with the second round slated to get underway shortly, followed by the final 18 holes Tuesday beginning with 8 a.m. PT tee times. San Diego State's Alex Kang is the individual leader after shooting a nine-under par 62 first round but two Cal players are close behind as Ben Homa and Ben An fired collegiate career-best rounds of eight-under par 63 and six-under par 65 to sit in second and tied for third place, respectively. Based on their strong performances at the Pre-NCAA Invitational over the weekend in Terre Haute, Ind., both the Cal men's and women's cross country teams moved up a spot in the latest regional rankings. The Cal men are now fourth in the West, while the women are fifth. National rankings will be updated on Tuesday. At the Pre-NCAA meet, the Bear men placed seventh in the blue division behind a seventh-place individual finish by Michael Coe. Deborah Maier was third in the women's blue division race, helping Cal to an eighth-place standing. For more details on the rankings, visit ustfccca.org.

A special note for this week is to send well wishes along to former Cal players DeSean Jackson and Zack Follett, both of whom left games in Week 6 after sustaining apparently serious injuries.

Last year, Cal took the title for the fourth time in the first eight years of the tournament in a rain-shortened 36-hole event as inclement weather on the second and final scheduled day forced the cancellation of the last 18 holes for the first time in the history of the event. Shouldn't be a problem this year with high temps expected to be in the 70's and very little chance of rain. Live Scoring | Cal's Tournament Notes for The Alister MacKenzie Invitational
Shane Vereen's 31-yard touchdown pass from Kevin Riley marked the 30th time in his career he has reached the end zone. Vereen now has 11 TDs this season, eight on the ground and three through the air.
Earlier in the game, Vereen added to his consecutive games streak with at least once catch . He has caught a pass in all 32 of his Cal games and his string is the longest for a running back in the country.
Mychal Kendricks recovered a USC fumble at the Cal 26-yard line, his third fumble recovery of the season. It marks the fifth fumble recovery of his career.
D.J. Campbell's sack of USC QB Matt Barkley was the first of his career. The third-down tackle set the Trojans back nine yards and forced them out of field goal range.
USC won the toss, but deferred until the second half. Cal will receive the ball to start the game.

WR Marvin Jones just ran 48 yards for a TD. It was his first career rushing touchdown and a career-high for yardage on a single carry. It is only his second career rush.
Jones' 48 yards on the ground is also more than UCLA has a team through the 8:48 mark of the fourth quarter. The Bruins have just 26 yards on 23 carries. UCLA came into the game averaging 262.4 rushing yards per game.
Mychael Kendricks just threw UCLA QB Kevin Prince down for a 12-yard sack (giving him 5.5 career sacks and 3.5 this season). Kendricks followed it up with a QB hurry that forced a fourth-and-27 and a UCLA punt.
Darian Hagan came up with his second big play of the game. After getting a fumble recovery in the first quarter, Hagan just came up with a third quarter pick, the 4th interception of his career.
Check out the action from the UCLA game in photos courtesy of GoldenBearSports.com. There is a great picture of the massive hit put on by Mychal Kendricks.
Shane Vereen just went over the 100-yard rushing mark in the game (with just over four minutes remaining in the first half). It is his eighth 100-yard rushing performance of his career. It is the third straight 100 yard rushing performance.
Vereen also has 47 yards of receiving (a 31-yarder and a 16).
Shane Vereen now has a catch in 31straight games, every single game of his career. Vereen has the longest active pass reception in a game streak in the NCAA among running backs and is ninth overall for consecutive games with a catch among all players.
The Bears hold a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bears have shut out their opponent in the first quarter in four of five games this season. They have also now outscored their opponents 28-7 in the first 15 minutes.
Darian Hagan logged his first career sack, taking down the UCLA QB at the Cal 45. The defense followed with another blitz, this time with Mike Mohamed bring the heat and getting the quarterback hurry, leading to a Bruin punt.
The Bears got possession of the ball on the Bruin 17 after Chris Conte forced a fumble (jumped on by Josh Hill, his first recovery of the season) to set up a four-yard Shane Vereen touchdown. This is the 8th career multi-TD game for Vereen.
Cal has now scored 55 points off turnovers this season. This was the sixth force fumble of the year for the Bear D.
