MEN'S BASKETBALL QUICK FIRST-HALF RECAP

Despite being limited by early foul trouble, Cal was able to hang within 10 points of Stanford most of the first half and closed the period on a 15-5 run to cut what was once a 15-point Cardinal advantage down to just five points, trailing 39-34 at the break here at a loud Maples Pavilion.

The Bears hope to erase the five-point deficit over the final 20 minutes today and capture a share of the Pac-12 championships

Senior Jorge Gutierrez scored six points for the Bears before being forced to the bench for the final 5:26 of the half with his third foul. Fellow senior Harper Kamp leads Cal with nine points and three rebounds, while sophomore Allen Crabbe poured in seven for the Bears in the opening frame.

Chasson Randle (12) and Andrew Zimmermann (10) led the way for Stanford in the first half.

Remember, Stanford led at halftime in the season's first meeting inside Haas Pavilion and the game ended in a 69-59 Cal victory. It should be an exciting second half.

Be sure to check back here for the second half recap and postgame comments.
