First-Half Quick Recap: Cal-Stanford

What a first half between Cal and Stanford here at Maples Pavilion. It is a great back-and-forth contest so far. Freshman guard Brittany Boyd poured in 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting to go along with four rebounds and two two assists in the first half.

Cal opened the game with a pair of buckets (set up by a pair of Gennifer Brandon rebounds) to take the early 4-0 advantage before Stanford made a run of its own to pull ahead.

The Bears re-captured the lead as Layshia Clarendon, facing a double-team, kicked the ball out to an open Boyd for a three-pointer to make it 7-6 early on.

The play was part of a frenzied first couple of minutes that featured 17 combined shots between Cal and Stanford in the first four minutes of the contest.

Stanford made another run to surge out to an eight-point lead at one point before the Boyd show took center stage.

The freshman guard took over, scoring three-straight baskets at one point en route to the 14 first-half points, one shy of her career-high in a full game.

Brandon controlled the glass for the Bears with five rebounds in the first half.

Chiney Ogwumike led Stanford with 13 points and nine rebounds in the opening half.

Can't wait for the second-half to get underway.
