Head men's basketball coach Mike Montgomery is a basketball icon in the Bay Area, but there is a new Montgomery rising up the coaching ranks. Coach Montgomery's son, John Montgomery, is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Bears after serving as the team's director of operations the past three seasons. John also coached at Furman University in South Carolina for the 2007-08 season, prior to his arrival in Berkeley.
