Have you seen Jahvid Best score five touchdowns in his first two NFL games. Do you want to keep updated on how all the former Cal players in the NFL are doing? Here's some notes on Golden Bears playing across the league through the first two weeks of the 2010 season.
• Washington's Lorenzo Alexander has contributed five tackles in the team's first two game, including his first sack of the season in a Week 2 overtime loss to Houston. In Week 1, Alexander and former Cal teammate Andre Carter helped fellow Redskin DeAngelo Hall strip the ball from Dallas running back Tashard Choice on the final play of the first half, with Hall picking up the fumble and returning it 32 yards for a score in a 13-7 Washington win.
• Tyson Alualu, the 10th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, has started at defensive tackle in his first two pro games for the 1-1 Jaguars and contributed six tackles and 1.0 sack.
• Tully Banta-Cain has posted 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks for a 1-1 New England squad, including eight tackes and 1.0 sacks in a 28-14 loss at the New York Jets in Week 2.
• Nnamdi Asomugha has started a pair of games and made two tackles for a 1-1 Oakland Raiders squad.
• Jahvid Best, the 30th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, had a huge game in a 35-32 Week 2 loss to Philadelphia, scoring three touchdowns, including a 75-yard TD reception, and totaling a combined 232 yards (Rush: 17-78 2 TD; Rec: 14, 170 TD). Best has scored five touchdowns with 98 yards rushing on 31 carries and 170 yards receiving on 14 catches for the 0-2 Lions. The five touchdowns he has scored in his first two NFL games equal Billy Sims (1980) for the most in Detroit history.
• The 38-year-old David Binn began his 18th season as the long snapper for the San Diego Chargers and played in his team-record 179th straight in a season-opening Monday Night Football loss at Kansas City, but injured his hamstring in the contest and was placed on injured reserve to end his campaign.
• Andre Carter has started each of the first two games for a 1-1 Washington squad and has seven tackles.
• Thomas DeCoud has started each of the first two games for a 1-1 Atlanta team and has seven tackles.
• Zack Follett has seven tackles and a pass breakup as a special teams player and backup linebacker for an 0-2 Detroit team, with six of his tackles coming in a 35-32 Week 2 loss to Philadelphia.
• Justin Forsett rushed seven times for 43 yards, including a 32-yard rush, while adding three catches for 17 yards as the starting tailback in Seattle's 31-6 victory over San Francisco. He also had three punt returns for 17 yards.
• Scott Fujita, a member of the 2009 New Orleans squad that won Super Bowl XLIV, has started a pair of games and recorded 12 tackles and 0.5 sacks for an 0-2 Cleveland squad.
• Mike Gibson has played in both games with one start for a 1-1 Seattle club.
• In Week 1, Tony Gonzalez became the first tight end in NFL history to reach 1,000 receptions and the seventh player overall, joining Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison, Cris Carter, Tim Brown, Isaac Bruce and Terrell Owens. Gonzalez has started both games and has four catches for 54 yards on the season for a 1-1 Atlanta squad.
• Nick Harris is averaging a career best 45.6 yards per punt on 12 tries for an 0-2 Detroit team. Harris punted four times for an average of 52.5 yards per punt (second best in Week 2) with a long of 66 in his most recent contest against Philadelphia. He has also returned five punts for 29 yards.
• DeSean Jackson has eight catches for 165 yards in his first two games for a 1-1 Philadelphia team, with 135 of those yards (and four of the catches) coming in Week 2 at Detroit. One of his catches against the Lions went for 53 yards while another one was a 45-yard TD that opened the day's scoring.
• Ryan Longwell, one of three players credited with traveling to Mississippi to help Brett Favre make his decision to play in 2010, has converted both of his field goals in 2010. However, Longwell has had one of his two extra-point attempts blocked.
• Marshawn Lynch had a strong individual game in a 34-7 Week 2 loss at Green Bay, carrying the ball 17 times for 64 yards. He has 20 carries for 77 yards on the season.
• Alex Mack has extended his consecutive games started streak to 18 by starting each of the first two games for 0-2 Cleveland. The second-year NFL player has started every game possible in his professional career.
• Brandon Mebane has started each of the first two games for 1-1 Seattle, totaling six tackles including four with 2.0 tackles for loss in his Week 2 contest at Denver.
• Cameron Morrah made one catch for 11 yards in his only action of the season in a Week 1 victory over San Francisco for 1-1 Seattle.
• Ryan O'Callaghan made his season debut coming off the bench in a Week 2 victory at Cleveland for 2-0 Kansas City.
• Aaron Rodgers has Green Bay off to a 2-0 start as the Packers' starting quarterback, hitting on 38-of-60 passes (63.3%) for 443 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions for a 94.0 efficiency rating. Has added another score and 29 yards with one touchdown rushing on 10 carries. His 10 rushing scores since 2008 are the most by an NFL quarterback during that time.
• Craig Stevens has started a pair of games for 1-1 Tennessee, contributing three catches for 27 yards. His brother, Eric, is a current Cal player.
• Nick Sundberg has played in his first two career games for 1-1 Washington.
• Langston Walker has started a pair of games for a 1-1 Oakland team.
• Other former Cal players also on NFL rosters include Desmond Bishop (Green Bay), Kyle Boller (Oakland), Lavelle Hawkins (Tennessee), Daymeion Hughes (San Diego), L.P. Ladouceur (Dallas) and Syd'Quan Thompson (Denver).
