Dana Vollmer's win in the 100-meter butterfly was among the highlights of the Cal contingent's performances in the June 5-6 Mare Nostrum meet in Monaco. A collection of nine current and former Golden Bears is competing in the trio of Mare Nostrum meets in Europe. The series includes the June 9-10 meet in Barcelona and the June 12-13 meet in Canet en Roussillon, France.
Vollmer also took second place in the 50-meter butterfly and second in the 100-meter freestyle, in which fellow former Cal star Natalie Coughlin finished fifth. Cal's Caitlin Leverenz, the 2010 Pac-10 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year, took third in the 200-meter individual medley. Former Bear Lauren Boyle finished fourth in the 400 free.
