The Cal men's golf team is in the San Diego area and making their final preparations for the start of the NCAA San Diego Regional. The 54-hole event begins Thursday at 8 a.m. PT at the Carlton Oaks Golf Course in nearby Santee, with Stephen Hale the first Cal player off the team at 8:20 a.m. PT. The remainder of the team will tee off in 10-minute intervals after Hale, beginning with Max Homa and also including Brandon Hagy, Michael Weaver and Eric Mina.
The Golden Bears are the sixth-seeded club in the 13-team regional and need to finish in the top five to advance to the NCAA Championship to take place June 1-6 at the Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn. The last time Cal made it to the NCAA Championship in 2004, the Bears won their only national title.
