A recent email from the Blackberry of Peggy Curtin, the Media Relations Director of the 2010 NCAA San Diego Regional, brought good news all around. The message was that the Golfstat live results are now working and a quick check of the team leader board showed the Bears tied for first at +9 with Oregon (a secondary check as this blog entry was being finished showed the Bears dropping back to second at +10, one shot back of the Ducks). Cal is attempting to win its first NCAA Regional in school history.

Maybe more importantly, Cal has gained five strokes on sixth-place Central Florida and currently has a 15-stroke cushion to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the first time since winning the national title in 2004. The top five teams (and low individual not from those five teams) makes the dance June 1-6 at the Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

A quick look at the player leader board shows Michael Weaver and Max Homa both tied for 10th place at two-over par for the tournament. Homa is one-under for the day, while Weaver is two-over. Both are thru five holes. Other current places and scores for Cal players include Stephen Hale (T-13th, +3 tournament, even today thru 6), Brandon Hagy (T-21st, +5 tournament, +1 today thru 7) and Eric Mina (T-31st, +7 tournament, event today thru 7).

If all that wasn't enough, here's one more photo of Michael Weaver hitting his second shot from the fairway on the fourth hole.

Whew, with the Golfstat live results working again the Bear Blog is going to take a little break.
