BERKELEY – Nicole Walthall, a AAA-rated competitor in the California Beach Volleyball Association, has been hired as a volunteer assistant coach for Cal’s sand volleyball program, head coach Rich Feller announced.
Walthall, who was ranked among the top-30 players in the state by the CBVA in 2011, has been a fixture for years at the Clark Kerr sand volleyball facility, the new home of Cal sand volleyball. Walthall, a Cal alum, has coached numerous CBVA players at the Clark Kerr courts to prepare them for competition.
“Nicole is a self-taught volleyball player who has been playing the game for over 20 years,” Feller said. “More important, she’s a loyal Cal volleyball and sand volleyball participant. She’s attended and taught clinics throughout the area and has participated in numerous tournaments and succeeded on just about every level. I’m very excited to have someone of her experience and enthusiasm become an official part of our sand volleyball program.”
Walthall will immediately start working with Cal’s non-indoor players and graduating seniors. Official practices for Cal’s inaugural 2014 season will begin in late February with the first match scheduled for March 9 at Pacific.
