Big C Welcome BBQ Brings Student-Athletes Together

Annual Event Marks Beginning of Fall Semester
By Cal Athletics on Wed, August 28, 2013

BERKELEY - Over 850 Cal student-athletes, along with coaches, administrators and athletic department staff converged on Evans Diamond on Wednesday for the annual Big C Welcome Barbecue, an event intended for athletes from different sports to come together as a unified department.

The barbecue also included Cal spirit groups and an appearance by Oski. After the barbecue, athletes were divided into groups as they worked with counterparts from different sports to complete a scavenger hunt around campus.

The groups were charged with taking a group picture mimicking their sport or activity, a group shot with a Bear statue, a picture where they spelled out “Go Bears,” and a group shot at Sather Gate.

Student-athletes were also each awarded a “Bear Days” T-shirt, which lists one game or event for each sport that athletes from other sports are encouraged to attend.

See the linked photo album for some images of the event.
