Tarrago Nets Three More Goals At FINA World Cup

KHANTY-MANSIYSK, Russia – Cal sophomore Roser Tarrago scored three goals in Spain’s 7-6 loss to Russia on Wednesday at the FINA Women’s Water Polo World Cup, but Spain still won its Group heading into Friday’s quarterfinals.

Tarrago, who leads the tournament with 12 goals, helped Spain go 2-1 in Group Play. The Spaniards play South Africa in the quarters.

Hungary, which features fellow Cal sophomores Dora Antal and Anna Illes, fell to the United States 15-10 on the final day of Group Play. The Hungarians will play China in the quarterfinals.

Spain won the Gold Medal at the European Championships last month and also won the title at the FINA World Championships in 2013. Hungary won the Bronze Medal at the European Championships.
