Successful Day For Bears At FINA World Cup

KHANTY-MANSIYSK, Russia – It was a successful day all around for Cal student-athletes at the 2014 FINA Women’s Water Polo World Cup on Wednesday.

On the second day of Group Play, sophomores Dora Antal and Anna Illes helped Hungary rout South Africa, 25-3. Antal, the 2014 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Newcomer of the Year, scored four goals while Illes added one.

Fellow sophomore Roser Tarrago scored two goals as Spain defeated China, 12-5. Tarrago scored the game’s first goal, and added another in the second quarter after China scored twice to cut a 5-1 deficit down to two goals. Spain then pulled away in the third period for the victory.

Spain is now 2-0 in Group Play and Tarrago has scored nine goals overall.

Hungary, 1-1 in Group Play, takes on the United States on Thursday while Spain meets Russia.
