Tarrago Continues Scoring Spree For Spain

Cal Sophomore Registers Five Goals; Antal, Illes Help Hungary Beat Italy

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Cal sophomore Roser Tarrago continued her torrid scoring spree at the 2014 European Water Polo Championships on Sunday, netting five goals as Spain defeated Italy 8-4 on the final day of group play.

Meanwhile, fellow Cal sophomore Dora Antal scored one goal as she and fellow Cal sophomore Anna Illes helped Hungary cruise by Great Britain 16-5.

Tarrago, an All-American honorable mention in 2014 for the Bears, leads the European Championships with 14 goals in three games. She scored six during Spain’s victory over France on Friday. Tarrago also is second in the tournament with eight steals.

Antal, the MPSF Newcomer of the Year in 2014 and a First Team All-American, now has five goals during the championships while Illes continues to help anchor Hungary’s defensive efforts.

Both Spain and Hungary will play in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
