KUNSHAN, China – Incoming Cal freshman Emma Wright scored two goals but Canada fell to the United States 16-5 on the second day of group play at the FINA Women’s Water Polo World League Super Final on Wednesday.
Wright, who will join Cal’s program as soon as her obligations with the Canadian National Team program are over, was her country’s second-leading scorer at last year’s FINA World Championships.
Meanwhile, Cal sophomore Roser Tarrago, an MPSF All-Newcomer pick last season, was part of Spain’s team that lost to Russia 13-12 in a penalty shootout. Spain had an 8-2 lead before the Russians came back to win.
Tarrago, who won a Silver Medal for Spain at the 2012 Summer Olympics, finished the 2014 season ranked fifth in the MPSF with 2.04 goals per game. Her 49 total goals ranked second on the Bears.
In Thursday’s final day of group play, Spain meets the United States while Canada takes on Russia.
