Trabucco Named MPSF Newcomer Of The Week

Freshman Goalie Led Defensive Effort Against Stanford
By Cal Athletics on Mon, April 21, 2014

BERKELEY – Cal goalie Madeline Trabucco has been named the MPSF/KAP 7 Newcomer of the Week.

Trabucco, a freshman from Santa Barbara, Calif., made seven saves during the Bears’ 9-6 loss at No. 1 Stanford on Saturday. Included in that number was a terrific stop of a point blank lob shot by Stanford’s Ashley Grossman with Cal trailing 6-5 in the third quarter. Trabucco also turned away a penalty shot by the Cardinal.

It’s the second time Trabucco has earned the weekly newcomer honor and sixth time it has gone to a Cal player this season. The Bears also have two Player of the Week honors to their credit.

The No. 4 Bears open up MPSF Tournament play Friday against San Jose State at the Uytengsu Aquatic Center at USC.
