Tarrago Helps Spain Win Gold Medal

Cal Freshman Reaches The Top At World Championships

BARCELONA - Cal incoming freshman Roser Tarrago scored a goal and host Spain defeated Australia 8-6 to win the Gold Medal at the FINA World Championships on Friday.

Tarrago’s goal came in the second period and gave Spain a 5-3 lead. The Spaniards led 8-5 midway through the fourth period before Australia notched a goal with one second left to close out the scoring.

Tarrago was part of Spain’s 2012 Olympic Team that captured the silver in London.

Fellow Cal incoming freshman Dora Antal and Anna Illes helped Hungary to a 10-8 victory over Russia to capture the Bronze Medal. Antal was also a 2012 Olympian, helping the Hungarians advance to the Bronze Medal Game before falling to Australia.
