BERKELEY - California placed 12 student-athletes on the 2014 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic Team, the conference announced on Friday. The Golden Bears placed a program-high 14 players on the 2007 MPSF All-Academic Team and also had 12 on the conference's 2008 and 2012 academic squads.
Three seniors (midfielder Amelia Burke, defenders Marissa O'Meally and Jacqueline Pelletier) four juniors (midfielders Michaela Bird and Gaby Christman, defender Casey Reid and attacker Brittany Ward) and five sophomores (goalkeeper Helen Hansen, midfielders Nicole Beck, Brynn Gasparino, attacker Lizz Lavie and defender Michele DeVincent) earned the academic honors from the MPSF.
Two of the Bears - O'Meally and Burke - were named to the conference's all-academic team for the third straight season, while Christman and Ward earned the honor for the second straight season.
The MPSF awarded academic honors based on the following criteria:
1. 3.00 or better cumulative grade-point average.
2. Student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically.
3. Student-athlete must have completed one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the award is being received.
4. Student-athlete must have competed in fifty percent or more of the institution's competition in his or her respective sport.
