Henley-on-Thames, England – The California men’s crew program will be represented in the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta, held on the River Thames in England July 2-6.
Regarded as one of the top rowing events in the world, the Henley begins with preliminary heats July 2-3, followed by additional heats and the quarterfinals July 3-4, the semifinals July 5 and the Grand Final July 6. Races are head-to-head knock out competitions, raced over a course of one mile, 550 yards (2,112 meters).
A Cal 8+ will be one of eight boats competing in the Ladies Challenge Plate. Cal’s boat includes coxswain Julian Venonsky, Steven Tuck (8), Christian Reynolds (7), Jordan Vanderstoep (6), James Scott (5), Richard Walter (4), Lucas O'Brien (3), Patrick McGlone (2), and Cole Reiser (1).
They will race against Brown, the California Rowing Club and New York Athletic Club, Lady Rohesia Boat Club, Leander Club, Leander Club and Molesey Boat Club, Oklahoma City River Sport, Oxford Brookes University and Taurus Boat Club.
Reynolds, Scott, McGlone and Resier each won the Temple Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta in 2011.
The Bears’ other 8+ boat in the Henley Royal Regatta will be one of 74 entries competing for the Temple Challenge Cup. The crew features coxswain Erin Alexander, Michael Bernerius (8), Kyle Flagg (7), Jason Stroud (6), Christian Kader (5), Peter Stone (4), Atli Thorkelsson (3), Patrick Winnett (2), and Sean Murphy (1).
Bernerius won the The Prince of Wales Challenge Cup in the 4x with Australia Rowing in 2011.
