Sydney, Australia -- Cal Women’s Crew had its first final of the week Wednesday morning in the U23 women's pair (W2-) as Kendall Chase and Ingvild Roenningen finished second. The Mosman pair that took first place won junior worlds and finished fourth at U23 worlds last year.

"The racing got off to a great start the other day as Kendall and Ingvild looked great in the heat,” Cal Head Coach Dave O’Neill said. “In this morning's final they did a great job to finish second to a very good and accomplished Mosman pair, and I'm really pleased with this result."

The Cal pair was slow off the start as they hit the buoys and struggled to get into a rhythm. They were well off the leading two pairs after 500 meters. With 500 meters to go, they had worked themselves back into contention for the silver medal and moved through the University of Queensland crew. The UQ is coached by Ian Edmunds, father of Jacinta Edmunds.

"The week has been going really well,” O’Neill said. “We've done some great training and have treated this week much like a typical spring break. Racing against these crews in some events we've never entered is a lot of fun, as well."

Cal will race in the open eight and U23 four Thursday.
