The newest member of the Cal men's water polo coaching staff is former Golden Bear standout Gavin Arroyo, who enters his second season as an assistant coach.

Arroyo, 32, joins the Bears' staff after an extremely successful national and international water polo career. He was a member of the of the 1996 and 2000 USA Olympic water polo teams and spent seven years playing professionally in Spain for Barceloneta and Barcelona, as well as in Greece for Olympiakos and Vouliagmeni. Arroyo was also a member of the United States' World Cup gold medal winning squad in 1997, and was teammates with Kirk Everist on the 1996 U.S. Olympic team.

A two-time All-American at Cal, Arroyo graduated in 1994 with a degree in political science. He scored 100 goals as a Bear, helping the team to three consecutive NCAA championships from 1990-92, including an undefeated 1992 season. During Arroyo's Cal career, the Bears were 107-11, for a .907 winning percentage.

Arroyo competed for the Cal men's swim team in 1991 and 1994 as well. His younger brother, Rob, was a member of the Cal water polo team from 1998-02. Arroyo and his wife, Erene, reside in San Francisco.
