BERKELEY -

This Saturday is shaping up as a busy and exciting day for the Golden Bears in Berkeley with fans having the opportunity to cheer on Cal teams in five different sports on the southwest corner of campus. Men’s basketball, baseball, track & field, women’s tennis and women’s water polo are all in action.

As a result of the activities, traffic is expected to be heavier than usual and those attending one or more of the events should make their transportation plans in advance. In particular, men’s basketball permits will be honored throughout the day, meaning campus lots will not be available to the general public.

Instead, fans are encouraged to use public transportation or public parking lots close to the University. The closest City of Berkeley garages are Telegraph/Channing, located just west of Telegraph Avenue with entrances off of Channing and Durant, and the Oxford Garage at 2165 Kittredge St. For more information, including directions, rates and hours of operation, visit the Berkeley parking web page. The Downtown Berkeley BART station is also located two blocks west of campus and in close proximity to the athletic venues.

The competition schedule for Saturday includes:

  • Cal Track & Field Opener – 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Edwards Stadium
  • Women’s Tennis vs. Stanford – 12 noon, Channing Courts
  • Women’s Water Polo vs. San Jose State – 1 p.m., Spieker Aquatics Complex
  • Cal Baseball Classic Doubleheader – Arkansas vs. Tulane at 1:30 p.m.; Cal vs. San Francisco at 6 p.m., Evans Diamond
  • Men’s Basketball vs. Colorado – 3:30 p.m., Haas Pavilion

In addition, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will give a performance at nearby Zellerbach Hall starting at 8 p.m.

“With so much happening on Saturday, we anticipate added traffic as people make their way to campus,” said Gordon Bayne, Assistant Athletic Director for Events Management. “We want to help make sure that our fans have an enjoyable experience. Planning in advance and taking advantage of the various parking and transportations options will certainly get the day started right.”
