If you build it, they will come.
That’s what Cal Athletics did Thursday evening, and under a twilight sky on a cool Bay Area summer night, more than a hundred fans turned out to watch Field of Dreams at a special movie night on Evans Diamond.
The movie night was part of Cal’s Gold Standard service initiative to offer season ticket holders and fans experiences beyond a great sporting event.
"Movie night was a great way to bring the Cal family together. It's a fun, wholesome family activity for kids," said Jeanne Williams, a Cal football season ticket holder.
Before the showing, guests were able to enjoy a bounce house and bean bag toss, as well as uniform try-on and photo stations. The event included unlimited free popcorn, along with typical baseball fare available for purchase, and fans were also welcome to bring their own picnic dinner to enjoy.
"We’ve been Cal Football season ticket holders for 20 years and it's great to not only have unique events like this to attend, but also to see the student-athletes out here mingling with fans," said Cal football season ticket holders Christian and Will Whitty.
Along with fans, several Cal student-athletes also enjoyed the cinema under the stars.
"The movie night was cool. It's fun to come out to see the baseball field and the new scoreboard and it was great to talk to our season ticket holders," said freshman quarterback Jared Goff.
