SEATTLE – Two double-doubles and a near-triple-double led California to a 70-65 win at Washington Friday night to end a two-game skid and move the Bears to 15-7 overall and 7-4 in Pac-12 play.

The Bears had another all-around night from Brittany Boyd who scored 14 points to go with nine assists and nine rebounds while Reshanda Gray (20 points, 12 rebounds) and Gennifer Brandon (10 points, 12 rebounds) both put up double-doubles in a game that featured 12 lead changes and nine tied scores.

The win improves Lindsay Gottlieb to 4-0 all-time against the Huskies (12-10, 5-6 Pac-12) on a night that was highlighted by both teams shooting lights out from the three-point line.

California, who registered a 43-34 rebounding edge, shot 9-of-16 (.563) from beyond the arc while the Huskies went 11-of-20 (.550) from downtown. Washington was led by Jazmine Davis’s 20 points and Talia Walton’s 19-point, nine-rebound effort.

The first half was an outside-shooting affair with the teams combining to go 12-of-19 from beyond the arc and just 12-of-46 on two-point field goal attempts. Mikayla Lyles scored all nine of her first half points from three-point land with Boyd going 2-of-2 and Mercedes Jefflo going 1-of-1 for the Bears in the opening half.

Cal scored the first points of the game, but the Huskies jumped back on top and kept the Bears at a short arms length. Trailing 21-18 with 7:42 to go in the first half, California then went on an 8-0 run over the next four minutes to claim a 26-21 lead before taking a 35-31 advantage into the break.

Washington slowly forced its way into an eight-point lead in the second half, 54-46, with 12:04 to go before the Bears once again responded by going on a 7-0 run to make it a one-point game, 54-53, with 10:39 to go. The two teams jockeyed back and forth for the lead for the remainder of the half until a Brandon jumper with 2:29 to go put the Bears ahead for good, 65-64.

Leading 68-65 with 1:01 remaining in the game, the Huskies had two chances to send the game to overtime but could not convert. Kelsey Plum missed a three-point attempt with 45 seconds remaining, and with just three seconds to go Brittany Boyd stole the ball from Plum and sunk two free throws with 0.9 seconds left for the 70-65 win.

California travels to Pullman for a Sunday afternoon game against a Washington State team that dropped a close 77-70 game against No. 3 Stanford Friday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
