Other Bears in the Northwoods include catcher Mitchell Kranson with St. Cloud (.245, 4-2B, 3B, 4-HR, 14 RBI), right-hander Andrew Buckley with Madison (1-0, 3.60 ERA, one save, 27 K’s in 20.0 innings), infielder Max Dutto with Wilmar (.220, 4-2B, 15 RBI), outfielder Brian Celsi with Green Bay (.267, 4-2B, HR, 15 RBI) and outfielder Aaron Knapp with La Crosse (.200, 3-2B, 3B, HR, 14 RBI).

Three more of David Esquer’s squad competing in the top summer leagues are right-handers Ryan Mason and Dylan Nelson, and first baseman Nick Halamandaris.

Mason has just joined the Brewster Whitecaps of the prestigious Cape Cod League, and pitched his first game July 12, striking out two batters in 1.2 innings versus Falmouth. Nelson is pitching for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the Alaska League, where he is 0-0 with 35 strikeouts in 27.0 innings and a 4.66 ERA. Halamandaris is hitting .229 with five doubles, a home run and 10 RBI for Wareham in the Cape Cod League.

“Summer baseball is an important part of our player’s development,” said Esquer. “It is great that so many of our players are getting an opportunity to play in these top leagues. The experience of playing against this type of competition is extremely valuable.”
