FRESNO - Freshman third baseman Lucas Erceg homered for the second time this season and freshman center fielder Aaron Knapp had an RBI triple, but Cal baseball were limited to five hits and fell to Fresno State, 7-4, Tuesday night at Beiden Field.

The Golden Bears dropped to 16-20 on the year and the Bulldogs improved to 20-21. Erceg's homer to right field in the top of the second inning had given Cal a 1-0 lead, but Fresno State was able to come back with three runs in the bottom of the second off of Bear freshman right-hander Alex Martinez (0-3, 3.2 innings, five hits, seven runs, four walks, five strikeouts).

The Bulldogs added a run in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. Cal was able to get back a run in the top of the fourth inning when sophomore left fielder Brian Celsi tripled to left field and scored on a wild pitch to make the score, 4-2.

Fresno State came back with three more runs in bottom of the fourth to take control of the game, 7-2. The Bears did tack on two more runs in the top of the fifth inning when senior right fielder Jacob Wark doubled and then scored on Knapp's triple. Junior shortstop Derek Campbell then scored Knapp with a sacrifice fly to right field for the final 7-4 margin.

Bears next return to Pac-12 play when they travel to Bay Area rival Stanford, April 26-28, at Sunken Diamond (game times 2 p.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.). The April 27 and 28 games will be shown on the Pac-12 Networks.
