Cal – which on Sunday topped No. 6-ranked Washington, 7-1, at Evans Diamond – was shutout, 6-0, at Fresno State back on March 18. The Bears, however, have eight victories over ranked teams this season and went undefeated in tournaments in Auburn, Ala. and in San Diego.
Freshman right-hander Alex Martinez (0-2, 5.73 ERA, 13 strikeouts in 22.0 innings) is slated to start on the mound for Cal Tuesday night versus the Bulldogs. He will look to improve on his first outing at Fresno State when he went 4.0 innings with six hits, two earned runs, three walks and four strikeouts.
Martinez threw one inning of relief versus Washington on Sunday (one hit, no runs, one strikeout). He has made 11 appearances this season, including a March 8 start versus the University of San Francisco in which he went 5.1 innings with six hits, one run, two walks and three strikeouts. Another top game for Martinez was in relief March 3 versus Baylor in San Diego with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
Offensively, the Bears are led by senior designated hitter Devon Rodriguez, junior shortstop Derek Campbell and sophomore first baseman Nick Halamandaris. Rodriguez has three home runs and paces Cal with 18 RBI, Campbell leads the Pac-12 with five home runs and has 14 RBI, while Halamandaris has a team-best nine doubles with 12 RBI.

The tentative starter for Fresno State is sophomore right-hander Blake Quinn, who is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA and has 17 strikeouts in 14.2 innings. Quinn has started two games for the Bulldogs this season.
Last season, Cal swept a four-game series versus Fresno State (5-4 in 10 innings, 8-1, 4-3, 8-4) March 7-10, 2013 at Evans Diamond. The Bulldogs were the NCAA champions in 2008.
Following the mid-week game at Fresno State, the Bears return to Pac-12 play when they travel to Bay Area rival Stanford, April 26-28, at Sunken Diamond (game times 2 p.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.). The April 27 and 28 games will be shown on the Pac-12 Networks.
