Cal Falls to No. 6 Washington, 6-2

BERKELEY - Cal sophomore first baseman Nick Halamandaris tied the game, 2-2, with an RBI single in the fifth inning, but No. 6 Washington broke the contest open with two runs in the seventh and runs in the eighth and ninth innings on the way to a 6-2 win Friday night at Evans Diamond.

The Huskies improved to 27-7-1 and 14-3 in the Pac-12, while the Golden Bears dropped to 15-19 overall and 4-10 in conference play.

The top three batters in the Cal order - Derek Campbell, Aaron Knapp and Devon Rodriguez - each finished with two hits apiece.

UW scored two runs in the fourth inning off of Bear senior left-hander Kyle Porter (4-4, 7.0 innings, seven hits, four runs, one walk and five strikeouts) on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Austin Rei.

Cal battled back into the game by scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by senior left fielder Vince Bruno off of Husky right-hander Tyler Davis (8-1, 6.0 innings, nine hits, two runs, two walks, three strikeouts). The Bears tied the game in the fifth when Knapp and Rodriguez had two out singles and scored on Halamandaris' RBI single through the middle of the infield.

Cal, which fell to the Pac-12 leading Huskies, 4-3, on Thursday, will look to capture the final game of the series, Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m. at Evans Diamond.
