BERKELEY – Cal (10-8), which is a perfect 6-0 in games away from Evans Diamond this season, will try to get back on the winning track when the Golden Bears travel to Fresno State (13-7) Tuesday (March 18) for a 6:35 p.m. non-conference game at Bieden Field.

Cal went undefeated at both Auburn Tiger Classic Feb. 21-23 (East Tennessee State, 3-0; Auburn, 5-0; Arkansas Pine Bluff, 8-3) and the University of San Diego Tournament Feb. 28-March 3 (Baylor 8-5, 5-3; host San Diego, 5-2). The Bears fell to defending national champion UCLA (3-2, 3-1, 6-1) last weekend at Evans Diamond to open Pac-12 Conference play.

Cal is 4-8 in Berkeley this season, including two victories over No. 15 Texas and SEC opponent Arkansas. The Bears are 5-5 against ranked opponents in 2014.

Freshman right-hander Alex Martinez (0-1, 1.38 ERA, seven strikeouts in 13.0 innings) is slated to start on the mound for Cal Tuesday night versus the Bulldogs. Martinez threw one inning of relief versus UCLA on Sunday. He has made six appearances this season, including a March 8 start versus the University of San Francisco (5.1 innings, six hits, one run, two walks and three strikeouts). Another top game for Martinez was in relief March 3 versus Baylor in San Diego with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

A tentative starter for Fresno State is junior right-hander Will Munro, who is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and has seven strikeouts in 16.2 innings.

The Bears are currently second the Pac-12 with seven home runs and third with a 2.78 team ERA behind Oregon State (1.83) and UCLA (2.45). Individually, junior right fielder Derek Campbell is tied for first in the league with three home runs and sophomore center fielder Devin Pearson is tied for sixth with five stolen bases. On the mound, senior right-hander Trevor Hildenberger is tied for third in the Pac-12 with four saves and senior left-hander Kyle Porter is ninth with a 1.78 ERA.

Last season, Cal swept a four-game series versus Fresno State (5-4 in 10 innings, 8-1, 4-3, 8-4) March 7-10, 2013 at Evans Diamond. The last time the Bears played in Fresno, they defeated the Bulldogs, 7-6, March 27, 2012 at Bieden Field. Fresno State was the NCAA champions in 2008.

Following the mid-week game at Fresno State, the Bears travel to No. 7-ranked Cal Poly (17-3) for a four-game series in San Luis Obispo. Game times are 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 21-22, 1 p.m. Sunday, March 23 and 3 p.m. Monday, March 24.
