BERKELEY - Cal baseball's six-game winning streak came to a halt with an 11-1 loss to Stanford Tuesday night (March 4) at Evans Diamond. The Golden Bears, who had won two games against two different teams (5-3 over Baylor and 5-2 over University of San Diego) on Monday in San Diego, got their lone run in the sixth inning on senior Jacob Wark's solo home run to right field.

With the loss, Cal drops to 8-3, while the Cardinal improved to 5-7.

The Bears’ junior left-hander Michael Theofanopoulos (1-2) struggled, throwing 1.2 innings with four hits, six runs, three earned runs, two walks and a strikeout. Stanford took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on RBI doubles by Alex Blandino and Austin Barr, and then exploded for five runs in the third inning, highlighted by an RBI triple by Zach Hoffpauir to take a 7-0 early lead.

The Cardinal added a run in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth inning before Wark put Cal on the board with a towering shot over the right field fence for his first collegiate homer. Wark is now batting .833 on the year (5-for-6) after getting a single in the eighth inning.

Sophomore first baseman Nick Halamandaris also had a pair of hits for the Bears.

The winning pitcher for Stanford was freshman right-hander Tyler Thorne (5.0 innings, three hits, no runs, two walks, four strikeouts), who improved to 2-0.
