MEXICO CITY, Mexico - Former Cal All-American setter Carli Lloyd led the United States to a .388 hitting percentage as the Americans defeated Puerto Rico 25-15, 25-21, 21-17 on Wednesday night in the semifinals of the Women’s Pan-American Cup.
Lloyd, who led the Bears to two Final Four appearances and was the AVCA National Player of the Year as a senior in 2010, added three blocks and two service aces for Team USA, which will meet the Dominican Republic for the second year in a row in the Gold Medal Match on Thursday.
The United States is attempting to become the first country in history to win the Pan-Am Cup for three consecutive years.
Lloyd was on the 2012 United States team that won the gold at the Pan-Am Cup. She also played for Team USA in 2011 when it took the bronze.
