Higgins, a junior from Inglewood, Calif., ranks ninth in the Pac-12 with 3.52 kills per set, a mark that is second among all opposite hitters in the conference. She also had a hitting percentage of .292 and averaged 0.75 blocks per set this season.
While Higgins played primarily opposite hitter, she also moved to outside hitter for three matches while senior Adrienne Gehan nursed an injury and registered at least 20 kills each time. That included setting a career-high in kills in back-to-back matches, first putting down 21 against Washington and following up with 26 against Washington State.
Higgins was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 11 after averaging 5.0 kills per set and hitting .352 in road wins over Utah and Colorado.
Caloiaro, a senior out of Saratoga, Calif., ranks second in the Pac-12 and 11th in the nation with 11.70 assists per set after leading the conference for much of the season. She also quarterbacked an offense that is fourth in the Pac-12 with a .248 hitting percentage.
Caloiaro’s 62-assist performance in a win over Colorado on Nov. 9 is the second-highest mark in a Pac-12 match this season. It is also the most in any four-set conference match, and her 45 assists in a victory at Utah on Nov. 7 were the most in any Pac-12 three-set match in 2013. Overall, Caloiaro has two of the top-five assist performances in the conference this year.
The Bears ended the 2013 season Saturday with a loss at 12th-seeded Wisconsin in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. This marks the 10th time in the past 12 seasons at least one Cal player has earned all-region honors.
