BERKELEY - The University of California's all-around duo, senior Alicia Asturias, have been named to the 2013 All-Pac-12 Second Team, the conference announced Wednesday.
The All-Pac-12 team is made up of the top six all-around competitors from the Pac-12 Gymnastics Championships plus the top three competitors in each individual event who are not among the all-around honorees. The second team features the top two all-arounders who were not named to the first team and the top two gymnasts in each event not already named to either team.
Cal claimed seventh place at the Pac-12 Gymnastics Championship Saturday in Corvallis, Ore. with a score of 195.075. Both Pierce and Asturias competed in the all-around for the Blue and Gold, and Pierce used a 38.875 for 12th place while Asturias finished 15th with a 38.675. On the uneven bars, Asturias tallied a 9.85 to match her career-best total.
The Golden Bears will head back to Gill Coliseum on April 6 for the NCAA Gymnastics Corvallis Regional. The top two teams and top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each of the six regional sites will receive an automatic berth to the national championships hosted by UCLA at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles from April 19-21.
