BERKELEY – Nine affiliates of the Cal men’s golf program will be participating in U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying on Monday in an attempt to qualify for the 2014 U.S. Open to be played June 12-15 at the Pinehurst Resort & Country Club on the Pinehurst No. 2 Course. Former Cal golfers Brandon Hagy, James Hahn, Michael Kim, Eric Mina, Joël Stalter, Peter Tomasulo, Michael Weaver and Charlie Wi will be joined by 2014-15 incoming freshman Ben Doyle.

Sectional qualifying is a 36-hole event that is the final stage before U.S. Open hopefuls get to the championship itself. This year there are 12 sectional sites – 10 in the U.S. that will take place Monday, as well as one in England and one in Japan that took place on May 26. The number of qualifying spots is determined by the quality and quantity of the field at each location.

Doyle, Hagy, Mina and Stalter will play locally at Lake Merced Golf Club and The Olympic Club in Daly City with the top five players from a field of 110 advancing to the U.S. Open. Stalter will be the first of the four to tee off from the first hole at The Olympic Club at 7:22 a.m., followed by Mina from the first hole at Lake Merced Golf Club at 8:17 a.m., Doyle from the first hole at The Olympic Club at 8:28 a.m. and Hagy from the 10th hole at Lake Merced Golf Club at 8:39 a.m.

Hahn, Kim, Tomasulo and Weaver will be part of a 120-player field playing for 16 U.S. Open spots at Brookside Golf & Country Club and Scioto Country Club. Kim and Hahn will start from the first and 10th holes of Brookside Golf & Country Club, respectively, while Weaver and Tomasulo will both start from the 10th hole at Scioto Country Club.

Wi will be one of 145 players vying for 13 U.S. Open spots at the Colonial Country Club’s North and South Courses. He will begin on the first hole of the South Course.

Tee times are not currently available on the USGA website for either the Columbus or Memphis events
