Cal is coming off a win at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in its most recent event that gave the Golden Bears the honor of becoming the first team to ever win the tournament for four straight seasons.
  • Defending Champs – Cal is the defending champion of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Invitational, winning the event for the first time in school history and by a convincing 13 shots over second-place and eventual national champion Alabama in the spring of 2013. Brandon Hagy, Joël Stalter and Michael Weaver all tied for 11th a year ago, while the now-departed Michael Kim and Max Homa shared individual medalist honors and tied for seventh, respectively.
  • Southern Highlands Experience – Four of the five players in Cal’s lineup for the 2014 Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters have played in the event previously. Brandon Hagy, Joël Stalter and Michael Weaver have played twice each and Keelan Kilpatrick once. Only Pace Johnson will be playing in the event for the first time.
  • Tough Field – Cal will be facing one of its best fields during the 2013-14 regular season at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters with top-ranked and unbeaten Alabama leading a 15-team field that includes seven of the nation’s top-10, 11 in the top 20 and all 15 in the top 50 according to the latest Golfweek rankings released March 5.
  • Stalter Hot – Joël Stalter has been Cal’s top player over the last four events with a pair of individual medalist honors, three finishes in the top two and all four showings in the top five. He was named the Pac-12 Men’s Golfer of the Month in February for the second time in his career.
