PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Former Cal men’s golfer James Hahn (69-72 – 141, -3) is in 28th place after 36 holes of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am after his even-par 72 at Spyglass Hill on Friday. Hahn will head into Saturday’s action trailing second-round co-leaders Jimmy Walker (66-69 – 135, -9) and Jordan Spieth (67-67 – 134, -9) by six strokes.
Starting on the 10th hole, Hahn got off to a strong start on the back nine with birdies on the par-five 11th, and par-four 16th and 17th holes to make his turn at three-under par for the day and six-under for the tournament. He would give three of those strokes back with four bogeys over his last nine holes on the par-five first, par-three fifth, and par-four eighth and ninth. He did have one more birdie on the par-five seventh.
Another pair of former Golden Bears – Charlie Wi and Max Homa – are also competing in the event.
Wi (71-73 – 144, +1) is tied for 96th after a two-over par round Friday at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club with a birdie on the par-three third, a double bogey on the par-four fourth, a bogey on the par-five sixth and 15 pars.
Homa (73-76 – 149, +5) is tied for 127th after his four-over par 76 at Spyglass Hill on Friday. Also starting on the 10th tee, Homa picked up back-to-back birdies on the par-five 11th and par-three 12th to get into the red for the tournament before his struggles began. He would double bogey the par-four 13th and then posted back-to-back bogeys on the par-three 15th and par-four 16th. He would add another pair of bogeys on the par-three third and par-four sixth.
On the amateur leaderboard Wi and his partner Frank Quattrone are tied for 42nd (67-66 – 133, -10) after 36 holes, while Hahn and his playing partner Joe Kernan are tied for 90th (68-69 – 137, -7), and Homa and his partner Jay Ireland tied for 125th (69-71 – 140, -4)
