BERKELEY – Cal wraps up non-conference play with a battle against Sacramento State beginning at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on Levine-Fricke Field. Live stats will be available on with scoring updates provided on the @CalSoftball Twitter.

Up against the No. 1 team in the country, both Breana Kostreba and Cheyenne Cordes found a good deal of success as the two finished batting over .500 for the weekend. Kostreba went 4-for-7 with two doubles, one home run and four RBI while Cordes went 4-for-8 with a double and a homer. The pair are near the top of the Cal batting charts, with Cordes leading the team with a .435 average and 12 home runs to add to 12 doubles and 35 RBI. Kostreba is at .356 while Danielle Henderson (.362, 11 home runs) and Kylie Reed (.358) are also batting above .300. In the circle, Nisa Ontiveros continues to lead the team with nine wins and a 4.01 ERA through 22 appearances this season. Stephanie Trzcinski (4.39 ERA, 22 appearances) has seven wins, followed by Katie Sutherland-Finch (6.32 ERA, 24 appearances) with six wins.

The Bears visited the No. 1 Oregon Ducks and came up short in the series sweep. Oregon set the tone with a 9-1 mercy-rule win despite strong efforts from the Bears. The Ducks continued to lead the series with a second run-rule win, 15-3 last Friday. The Ducks completed their sweep of the Bears with a 7-2 win on Saturday.

The Hornets are coming off a three-game winning streak with a .289 team batting average.  Setting the tone for the team’s batting average is Sasha Margulies (.373, 21 RBI, nine doubles), followed by Kortney Solis (.339, nine doubles) and Paige Castro (.333). The Hornet pitching staff owns a 2.63 ERA, led by Caitlin Brooks (1.46 ERA) who is 8-5 in 13 appearances. Taylor Stroud has earned the start 12 times with 14 appearances and is pitching 3.31 with a 6-6 record.

Cal will host a three game series against the UCLA Bruins in Berkeley. The series begins on Friday at 3 p.m. and continues Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m. Saturday’s game will be Cal’s #SBSocialSaturday, with prizes and promos bases around Cal softball’s social media accounts, and Sunday the team will celebrate its partnership with the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and adopted teammate Bebe Wiggs.
