BERKELEY – Before hitting the road to face Oregon this week, the California softball team welcomes Santa Clara in the final contest of a four-game homestand. The Bears and Broncos are set for a battle beginning at 3 p.m. on Levine-Fricke Field. Live stats will be available on with scoring updates provided on the @CalSoftball Twitter.

Cheyenne Cordes was 2-for-3 against Santa Clara the first time around when the teams met in March, and she will again be someone to watch with her .425 batting average and team-leading 10 doubles. Cordes also leads in home runs, tied for 11 with Danielle Henderson. Henderson is batting .374, just ahead of Kylie Reed’s .372 average. Vanessa Alvarez’s batting average has been improving as of late after she batted .625 with a grand slam and five hits against Arizona. In the circle, Nisa Ontiveros leads with nine wins and a 3.83 ERA through 20 appearances. Stephanie Trzcinski (3.89 ERA, 19 appearances) and Katie Sutherland-Finch (5.37 ERA, 22 appearances) each have six wins. Trzcinski leads the team with 55 strikeouts, and Sutherland-Finch tossed the last meeting between the Bears and Broncos, allowing five hits and three runs.

The Bears hosted No. 9 Arizona at home in Berkeley but came up short of a series win after taking one of three games last weekend. Arizona opened the series with a decisive 15-5 win as Cal’s pitchers struggled, but the Golden Bears came out with a strong 9-1, six-inning triumph the following day. In the rubber game on Sunday, Arizona used three solo homers to drive up a 7-2 score and win the series.

Santa Clara is batting .246 with Stephanie Fisher leading the charge at .354. Breezy Bernard is the only other Bronco batting above. 300 with a .301 mark. In their last meeting with the Bears, it was Santa Clara's Kelly Scribner who found the most success, recording two hits off the arm of Katie Sutherland-Finch. Scribner leads the Broncos in home runs (5) while batting .299. Geenamarie Bonilla has 22 RBI while batting .266. Ciara Gonzales is the team's ace, making 12 starts with a 3-10 record and 3.56 ERA. Jessica Turner started the previous game against the Bears but was pulled in the first inning. She owns a 5.48 ERA in 18 appearances with a 2-9 record.

Cal hits the road and returns to the Beaver State for the second time in less than a month, but this time the Bears are scheduled to take on the Oregon Ducks. The series begins Thursday at 4 p.m. and continues Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
