HONOLULU, Hawaii -- James Madison handed Cal a shutout loss for the second time this weekend, defeating the Golden Bears 3-0  Sunday at the Jack in the Box Spring Fling in Honolulu after beating the Bears by the same score on Saturday. Cal is now 9-10 after wrapping up its final game at the Spring Fling.

The Dukes outhit Cal 6-4, with three of Cal’s hits coming on back-to-back-to-back hits from leadoff batter freshman Kylie Reed, senior LaRisa Jones and junior Danielle Henderson at the top of the first. Henderson also drew Cal’s only walk, and senior Alex Robben was the only other Bear with a hit via a single to right center at the top of the fifth.

Freshmen Katie Sutherland-Finch and Stephanie Trzcinski shared the burden in the circle, with Sutherland-Finch (3-3) taking the loss after allowing three hits and two runs with no walks and two strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Trzcinski pitched the final four innings, allowing three hits and one run with a walk while fanning three batters.

James Madison brought two across at the bottom of the second when Caitlin Sandy found base with a double before Madyson Moran homered to left field.

Moran got her third RBI of the day after driving in Taylor Newton, on base with a double, to put the Bulldogs up 3-0 at the bottom of the fourth.

Cal returns to Berkeley to host Ohio State in the Bears’ home opener Wednesday at 3 p.m. before beginning Pac-12 play against Stanford on Friday.
