BERKELEY -- Five members of the 2013 University of California softball team have been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athletes, the association announced Monday. Sophomores Jasmin Mejia, Nisa Ontiveros and Taylor Lee, plus junior Mary Lee and 2013 graduate Lindsey Ziegenhirt are among the 4,000 softball student-athletes who topped the charts with their 3.50 or better grade point averages in the 2012-13 academic year.

Following a nomination from an NFCA member coach, players are designated NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes for achieving a 3.50 GPA or higher during the 2012-13 academic year.  The honor marks the second component of the NFCA’s academic award program, which also recognizes the squads with the highest GPAs in each membership category as 2013 NFCA Top Ten All-Academic Teams.
