OKLAHOMA CITY - Golden Bear Valerie Arioto showcased her veteran prowess Friday, contributing to the U.S. National Team’s 4-0 victory over Australia in the General Tire World Cup of Softball at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.

The designated player Arioto produced in all three of her plate appearances, drawing walks at the bottom of the second and fifth while also connecting for a double to score Tennessee’s Lauren Gibson at the bottom of the third. Arioto followed with a run of her own on a single by Missouri’s Nicole Hudson. She finished 1-for-1 (.500) with a run and two walks.

While Arioto worked the diamond, fellow Golden Bear and first-year Team USA member Lindsey Ziegenhirt worked hard in the bullpen to keep the Eagles’ pitching staff ready to play.

Ziegenhirt and Arioto will swing back into action Saturday evening against reigning International Softball Federation (ISF) World Champion Japan. The game airs live on ESPN beginning at 6 p.m. PT.
