Arioto, Ziegenhirt Invited to USA Softball's WNT Selection Camp

Former Golden Bear Valerie Arioto and 2013 Golden Bear grad Lindsey Ziegenhirt have accepted invitations to the 2013 USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Camp, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America announced Monday. Arioto and Ziegenhirt are among 32 athletes invited to the June 10-12 camp in Oklahoma City to vie for one of 17 spots on the USA Softball Women’s National Team roster.

During the three-day selection process, athletes will participate in position drills along with simulated drills. The event is open to the public and will be streamed live on www.USASoftball.com.

The 17 athletes selected to the USA Softball squad will compete in three separate events spanning three countries, beginning with the World Cup of Softball VIII from July 11-14 in Oklahoma City. The Women’s National Team will also travel to the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship in Surrey, B.C., Canada and the International Softball Federation (ISF) Women’s World Championship/Pan American Games qualifier in San Juan, Puerto Rico from Aug. 5-18.

Arioto has played for Team USA twice already, in 2011 and 2012, and was named 2012 USA Softball Female Athlete of the Year. She guided her team to the gold medal at the 2011 and 2012 World Cup of Softball games in Oklahoma City and the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Ziegenhirt also attended the 2012 camp but was not selected to the final roster.

The 2013 roster will be announced Friday, June 14.
