ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A pair of Bears were in action on Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center in New Mexico. Senior Milan Ristic placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles final by running a 7.68, while fellow senior Hammed Suleman placed 14th in the triple jump with a mark of 49-10.00 (15.19m). Suleman also competed yesterday in the long jump, placing tenth, while junior Chioma Amaechi was 16th in the women’s weight throw.

"Milan's race was a blanket finish from third to sixth with just .07 seconds separating those places," Director of track & field Tony Sandoval said on Saturday night in Albuquerque. "I'm encouraged with his consistency with his last four races capped off with a good indoor 200. Because of his strength he'll be even better at the 110's outdoors. Hammed is jumping well but struggled with fouls this weekend. Unfortunately his battle with getting on the board today landed him with only one fair jump and a 14th place finish."

Ristic earned the Bears three points in the competition with his sixth place finish on Saturday, after clocking a 7.68 in the final. The Serbian indoor record-holder finished a tenth of a second behind the national champion, Omar McLeod, a freshman from Arkansas. The transfer from UNC Asheville had placed fourth in his heat, and sixth overall in the 60-meter hurdles preliminary round on Friday night, with a time of 7.67.

Suleman finished 14th in Saturday’s triple jump with a mark of 49-10.00 (15.19m) after fouling on his first two attempts. He had qualified for the NCAA’s with a mark of 52-2.00 (15.90m), which would have placed him sixth today. The winner of the triple jump was Baylor’s Felix Obi, who jumped 54-5.25 (16.59m). Suleman also placed tenth in Friday’s long jump competition after he leapt a distance of 24-11.75 (7.61m).

The Golden Bears will be hosting the California Multi’s on Thursday, March 20 and Friday, March 21 at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley as the outdoor season gets into full swing.
