BERKELEY - A trio of Golden Bears will be representing their home countries on the global track & field stage when they compete at the World Championships Aug. 10-18 in Moscow. Alysia Montano and Inika McPherson will suit up for Team USA, while Martin Maric will compete for his native Croatia.

Montano will be racing in the women’s 800 meters and aiming for a medal after placing fourth in the event at the 2011 World Championships and fifth at last summer’s Olympic Games. Winner of four consecutive USA 800-meter titles and five overall, she owns a best time of 1:57.75 from a race last month in Paris, which is No. 3 in the world this year and just off her PR of 1:57.34 from the 2010 season.

Montano opens with the 800 heats on Wednesday, Aug. 14 (Pacific Time), with the semifinals set for Friday, Aug. 16, and the final on Sunday, Aug. 18.

As a Golden Bear, Montano captured the 2007 NCAA indoor and outdoor championships in the 800 meters, as well as the 2007 and ’08 Pac-10 crowns.

McPherson, the 2009 Pac-10 champion in the high jump for Cal, steps onto the track for the qualification round on Wednesday, Aug. 14 (Pacific Time). The final will be on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Three times a finalist at the NCAA Championships in the high jump, McPherson still owns the school indoor record of 6-0.00. Her PR in the event now stands at 6-4.75.

Maric captured the NCAA title in the discus in 2009 with a throw of 196-3 and is a two-time Olympian, most recently finishing 17th in London in 2012. Owner of a lifetime best of 218-3, Maric starts his quest in qualifying Monday, Aug. 12, with the discus final on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Each day of the meet will be televised on either NBC or Universal Sports, and a complete schedule can be found here, while full information on the championships is at IAAF.org.
