GOLD COAST, Australia – Golden Bears future and past earned silver and bronze medals in the women’s 400-meter freestyle, while a Cal swimmer of the present helped Team USA to a second-place finish in the 4x100 free relay Saturday at the Pan Pacific Championships.

In the 400 free – the second event of the evening – incoming freshman Cierra Runge was the runner-up with a personal-best time of 4:04.55. Right behind, Cal alum Lauren Boyle, representing New Zealand, was third in 4:05.33.

The Bears closed out the night with sophomore Missy Franklin swimming the second leg on the 4x100 free relay in a split of 53.81 to help the U.S. squad to a time of 3:34.23, which was second to the Australian quartet.

In between, Franklin and junior Elizabeth Pelton took to the pool in the 200 back. Franklin, who has battled with back spasms during the week, placed fourth in 2:08.82, while Pelton captured the B final (9th overall) in 2:09.36.

Racing at the Pan Pacific meet continues through Sunday. For complete results, click here.
