BERKELEY - A total of 15 Golden Bears earned All-America honors from the College Swimming Coaches of America Association based on their performances at the NCAA Championships in March. The total matches the highest number of All-Americans in Cal history.
The CSCAA confers All-America recognition for swimmers and divers who finish in the top 8 of an individual or relay event at the NCAA meet. Those who place 9-16 in the consolation finals receive honorable mention accolades.
Cal placed third at the NCAA Championships, marking the sixth year in a row the Bears have been among the three best teams in the country. Cal added two national championships to its all-time resume with Missy Franklin taking the 200-yard freestyle in an American-record time of 1:40.31, while the quartet of Rachael Acker, Caroline Piehl, Elizabeth Pelton and Franklin claimed the 800 free relay.
